Custom Made Night-Guards

Bruxism is a condition that is common among dental patients, although many are not even aware they suffer from it. Most diagnoses of bruxism are discovered when teeth are found to be worn down when receiving professional cleaning.

Bruxism is the unconscious grinding of teeth, typically at night but can also happen during the day. Constant grinding can cause tooth chipping and breakage as well as the wearing down of enamel. The effects can be severe if left untreated.

The guards are a special plastic appliance that fits between the upper and lower teeth to cushion them from the stresses of the grinding. In cases where bruxism occurs during the day, daytime guards are also offered. Daytime guards are often given to patients with high-stress jobs, such as people who count money all day or must perform highly intensive repetitive moves (factory work).

A custom guard is much more comfortable than generic ones available at the store. The generic ones are usually much thicker due to the need to mold them to a patient’s teeth at home. A custom guard is hardly noticeable when worn, especially when sleeping
