Implant Restorations

Implant restoration is one of the most popular and healthy options for replacing a missing tooth. Dr. Francisco Mondragon offers implant restoration at his office in Bonita, California.

Choosing an implant replaces more than just the tooth that is visible above the gum line. The entire root and tooth are restored for normal oral functions. Smiling, chewing, and speaking will return to normal as well as having better bone and soft tissue structure in the face and jaw.

An implant has three components. The root is replaced with a titanium screw placed into the jaw during a minor surgical procedure that is performed in the office. An abutment is placed on top of the screw to allow for attaching a crown. The crown is the replacement tooth above the gum line.

The titanium screw will eventually fuse with the bone to create a sturdy foundation for the crown. The crown is typically made of porcelain which is an extremely strong material for use within the oral cavity.

By replacing the root, the bones of the jaw still receive vibration sensations that help preserve the bone density. When bone density is lost in the jaw, the cheek structures will sag, causing that sunken look that is noticeable in people with many missing teeth.
