Partial/Full Dentures

Missing teeth cause more than just embarrassment of an imperfect smile. Gaps make eating more difficult and slurred speech. Filling the gaps is more important than just taking selfies.

Dentures are the most popular restoration method used among older adults. Multiple lost teeth can be a deterrent for opting for implants or other expensive appliances.

When more than one tooth is missing in a single row of teeth, dentures can fill gaps or even replace a whole row of teeth. A denture is a custom gum-colored plastic and wire appliance with replacement teeth arranged to fit securely in the patient’s mouth. If only a few teeth are missing, a partial denture is manufactured. If the entire row is missing, a full denture is ordered. A patient may have dentures on the top, bottom, or both rows of teeth.

Dentures are removable for easy cleaning, therefore not a permanent appliance. The dentures are removed each night before bed and placed in water for storage. The water is extremely important to keep the dentures from drying out and cracking. Once damaged, a replacement set will need to be purchased.

During the night, the mouth is allowed to rest and go through its own cleaning process, leaving the patient to clean and care for the remaining teeth as usual. Effervescent tablets are available to add to the water for the dentures to help clean and disinfect during the night.
