Whitening

Your smile is the first thing that most people notice about you. Over the years, the white of the tooth enamel can fade. Coffee, tea, smoking, and high-staining foods can speed up the process.

Before you buy an over-the-counter (OTC) whitening kit in a grocery store, call 619-475-8222 to ask about our in-office whitening options.

OTC kits tend to provide less than acceptable results when tried at home. One of the main reasons for this is the whitening gel is not strong enough to cause the enamel to change effectively. Hydrogen peroxide is the agent that activates whitening. An OTC kit cannot legally contain enough hydrogen peroxide for noticeable color change.

For a whitening gel to contain enough hydrogen peroxide for great whitening, it requires professional supervision. If not applied correctly, tooth enamel can be damaged. Dingy yellow color can result as well as possible tooth sensitivity.

On the “bright” side, our professional whitening can be done in as little as one treatment, depending on how many shades of white the patient is expecting.
